About Burn To Shine

Our Story

By: Jonathan Widran (Los Angeles Music Journalist)

There’s something explosive and soul stirring about that moment when an indie band, after a long stretch of paying their dues, breaks big out of the “regional success story” realm with confidence, conviction and awareness of the sacrifice it takes to get there.

Produced by the legendary Toby Wright (Alice in Chains,Korn, Tantric) , this 4 piece rock act out of Louisville,KY pairs an acoustic/electric hard rock sound with the soulful, intoxicating voice of frontman Jonathon “Stre” Streander. Their debut album Signs of What’s To Come is extraordinary collection of edgy, melodic rock with true commercial appeal, with the title track already receiving spins in various markets including Kansas City, Peoria and of course, Louisville. The band is touring through Summer 2010 in support of the album release.

Mean Mother is a band with members from various Detroit metal bands (The Nain Rouge, Today I Wait, Ganon) that grouped together with one mission, to rock. The music is heavy rock and roll laced with guitar solos, plenty of classic rock influence and an abundance of attitude. Hailing from Detroit, Mean Mother strives to bring fun and debauchery to Detroit’s music scene with their whiskey fueled guitar attack and tales of Harley Davidsons, booze, women, and muscle cars.

About Coffinberry’s new record:

“After their excellent post-rock debut, God Dam Dogs, Cleveland’s Coffinberry change things up by unplugging the guitars. Stripping away the distortion, the album centers around acoustic driven shufflin’ rock, complimented by the occasional wistful harmonica and tinkly piano. A few songs reintroduce post-rock roots, but even still, the new sense of direction coupled with drawled out vocals keeps things fairly downbeat. One thing that has remained is a distinct sense that you are listening to a band from the rust belt. Themes of isolation, blue collar work, and drinking run throughout, but somehow are buoyed with a spirit of optimism. It’s music that raises you beyond where you live and who you are, no matter the circumstances.”- Big Takeover

SWEET TALK: “Like Sabbath and Purple but Blacker and Deeper.” – The Boston Phoenix

“With so many bands looking to the 80’s for inspiration, rummaging through the dustbins of a more distant past may seem like a revelation. So it goes on the new self-titled album of Boston-based Township (out 10/28) on tracks like “Beaver Fever” and “Sinister Minister,” where the songs are as good as their titles’ rhymes and the band works up a churning 70’s funk while it sweats out classic riffs. With sludgy grooves, scorching solos, and Southern Gothic operas, Township fires off a series of timeless anthems that resonate like sun-bleached Polaroids.” – Boston Magazine, October 2008

“The band had my attention from the get-go, especially with the song “Highway,” which has this irresistible build to it; it’s now one of my favorite driving songs. The buzz at the show was late 70’s sound, and comparisons to Faces and Lynyrd Skynyrd were made; all I know is, when the band locked eyes with the audience and said “Let’s get sexy,” (tearing out the song “Big Bad”) it made me get sexy, too….Rochester likes you, too, Township.” – Rochester City Newspaper, May 2008

“Hefty drum beats, devastating guitar explosions, some Who-style vocals and we’re just happy as clams to give them some love” – Light in the Attic

“Township’s awe-inspiring rock histrionics are very present and the hits literally keep coming…Coming Home is a round-trip ending with a perfect nine-minutes-and-change finale that ends somewhere on the dark side of the moon. But by then, you’ll just want to start over again.” – Northeast Performer

Review of TERRIBLE TWO’S cd from website VICTIM OF TIME

Criminal IQ Records has released the spine-cracking debut LP by Detroit’s Terrible Twos this week, and with all of the jabbering on about their collision of the Piranhas’ greatest moments, along with an acidic and breathtaking stab into the 21st century’s limitless punk fusions, it’s without a doubt, one of the Motor City’s best full-length releases in a long time. Almost as if the power and slanted viciousness of their odd angles were as eruptive as an unpredictable volcano, the Terrible Twos really pulled it together into a tight foot-long of furious and erratic punk carnage that will be tough to follow. As one of the premier groups in the post-hype Detroit aftermath along with fellow bands, Red Red Red, Tyvek, Odd Clouds, and Human Eye, it always seemed like the Terrible Twos were the bunch that had the most ambition to get their noise to the outer regions, and were perpetually on the road, paying their dues and winning over new fans on a daily basis. You could even tell from their debut 7″ on X! Records that what they were doing was just slightly off on their own tangent, and despite all the comparisons and affiliations, it’s now time to hold Terrible Twos in their own regard as one of the high points of 21st century Detroit punk.

If there were a punk band in the swing era of American music The Sundresses would be that band. In some ways. Formed in 2002 in Cincinnati as a joke, sort of, the band had its first show booked before its first practice, and The Sundresses have been freaking out people ever since. In 2003 the band self-produced a full-length album, The Only Tourist In Town, for their friends in the Ohio River Valley. To their surprise, not only did people at home want to hear, but lots of other people wanted a listen as well. In fact, this bands ninth out of town show was South By Southwest 2004.

Since then they have performed in cities and towns from the Rockies of Colorado to the nor’ easters of Maine, and most points in between. The Sundresses are three people, but they use two drummers, two singers, two guitar players and one fine ass-swinging and stomping five-foot-tall bass player. the Sundresses put on a live show unlike any other. no fire, no auto tune, just three highly intuitive musicians with really loud amplifiers and drums and voices singing loud words loudly. Some say fuck machines, others say political subversives, everybody wants to dance.

With four consecutive SXSW’s performed, many women swooned and many hands shook, the Sundresses have completed a healthy 15-song full-length, titled “Barkinghaus”.

About Koffin Kats

With six years under their belt and countless international tours to prove it, the Koffin Kats show no sign of slowing down. This trio blasted out of Detroit in June of 2003 with the mission to never stop for anything. Vic Victor (Lead Vocal, Upright Bass) would join forces with long time friend Tommy Koffin (Guitar) and start laying the ground work for the sonic assault known as The Koffin Kats.

Click here to view the embedded video.

They put together songs about drug use, self-loathing, and all things evil. With Eric “E Ball” Walls (Drums) they began to stomp the shit out of Detroit and the surrounding area. The next couple of years proved to be up and down with drummer changes and the release of their first three albums – S/T (2003), Inhumane (2005), and Straying from the Pack (2006).

This onslaught caught the attention of many and helped to cement The Koffin Kats as one if the top acts in the world of punk rockabilly. In 2007 Vic and Tommy hooked back up with Eric to get ready for the fourth album- Drunk in the Daylight (2008) – and began what the Kats are known for- NON STOP TOURING. With their love for their fans and for the road they set out to play everywhere willing to listen to them. They have done this ever since and now have joined forces with Stomp Records to release their 5th album “Forever for Hire” in October 2009.

2010 shows no slowing down for The Koffin Kats. With Tommy’s departure from the band, a new guitarist, EZ Ian, has taken up the spot and plans for an EP to be released in the fall have already started. Catch them on the road as they will be touring across the US and Canada as well as Europe this year.

About Highlonesome
Few bands actually capture the true emotion that fuels them to create music. Highlonesome of Milwaukee WI, An Americana effort, pooling together multiple “Roots Music” stylings has recently raised the bar, Thier newest release “In life we can’t be free” clearly captures the darkness and pain of frontman and songwriter Noah Tyson. The album is soaked in misery, lost love & dealings with death. These boys really have something with this album, it’s refreshing! In an age where just about about every style of music has been beaten to death, they have given “Roots Music Fans” a breath of fresh air with the new album. Noah Tyson, lifetime resident of the Brew City, created Highlonesome in 2006 with a handful of local Punk & Hardcore Musicians. Tysons vocals are dark and haunting, almost ghostly. His songs are believable and original, they keep you listening. His music is honest, brilliant & sometimes complex, but it fits the songs like a glove. They have been performing live locally in Milwaukee ever since and made the trek to Montana in 2008 for the 2nd year of the Murder In The Mountains Music Festival & Film Documentary. With a revolving cast of members since the bands conception it seems Highlonesome has finally found the folks who are going to push it forward in the intended manner. The most recent addtition to the band is Joe Huber, a talented musician, songwriter & artist from Milwaukee WI. who has lent his fiddle, banjo & accoustic guitar playing abilities on the new album. Huber is an official member of Highlonesome as well as MIlwaukee’s The .357 String Band. Currently Highlonesome is self produced and only distributed through a handfull of independant record stores and online. It seems very realistic though for a small band to produce and release thier own material these days. Fans of bands like this put in legwork to find them and generally help pass on the good word when they do. Noah Tyson will be collaborating his solo efforts in the very near future with Farmagedon Records, a new “Roots Music Label” on his solo project. Farmageddon is a small label with the artist in mind and a passion for recording the music the way the artist sees it. You can find them up online atwww.farmageddonrecords.com The future for Highlonesome and Noah Tyson are definatley bright despite the darkness that helped create it!

About Harley Poe from Harley Poe:

Harley Poe loves you all in the most perverse way possible, so please love us too. Some of you may know that Harley Poe initially began as a side project of another well-established act and has since become the evil twin of that band. Forgive us. We enjoy the grotesque and monstrous, and we, as a band, celebrate those elements to the extreme. So, open your ears, squint your eyes, and lower your expectations. If you subscribe to the fantastic, if ketchup and pig intestines turn you on, if trashy movies get you wet, then you’ve found your heroes. Welcome to us.
