SUMMARY:Lemuria\, TIMBER!!!\, Jolly Korea\, Aadia
DESCRIPTION:The Brass Rail Loudly Presents: An Evening of Indie Rock \nLemuria (Buffalo\, NY)\nhttp://www.lemuriapop.com/ \nWithout a distinguishable understanding of the pop and intensity\, a silent video of a Lemuria show would appear to be that of a blistering hardcore trio. To the viewers surprise\, turning the audio on they’d find the stage diving mania and screamers are really chanting “Maybe I should wear lipstick too” or “You fit in my skin\, softest I’ve let in” as guitarist/vocalist Sheena Ozzella’s dynamic\, melodic voice guides the unlikely chorus. Lemuria might not sound like they are from Buffalo\, NY\, bu\nt the band was proudly birthed there\, following the legacy of an oddly eclectic\, if not eccentric\, music scene. When you loosen your ears to the sugary indie-pop\, you’ll discover discordant notes\, odd time signatures\, and brutal riffs creating menacing yet catchy music. Releasing their early 7” EPs and splits on drummer/vocalist Alex Kerns’ label ‘Art of the Underground’\, they landed their debut full length ‘Get Better’ on west coast pop-punk label Asian Man Records. Following their debut\, and worked into an ambitious DIY touring schedule\, they sprinkled 7” releases around on labels such as Hex\, No Idea Records\, and Suburban Home. Eventually\, they would settle in with the Boston-based Bridge Nine Records with their 2011 sophomore album\, ‘Pebble’. ‘Pebble’ received great critical acclaim and was featured with SPIN\, RollingStone.com\, and countless other magazines and websites. Now\, Lemuria are gearing up to release their newest effort ‘The Distance Is So Big’ on Bridge Nine Records on June 18th. Their most mature and best effort to date\, this album was recorded at the Magpie Cage with J Robbins (Against Me!\, Jawbreaker\, The Promise Ring) earlier this year. Look for song premieres\, pre-orders\, and more news coming very soon. \nTIMBER!!!\nhttp://www.timberisaband.com/ \nJolly Korea (Chicago\, IL)\nhttp://jolly-korea.bandcamp.com/ \nAadia\nhttp://aadia.bandcamp.com/ \nStop out to welcome Lemuria and Jolly Korea to the Brass Rail for the first time! As always\, the drinks will be pourin’ and the fists will be pumpin’. Show starts at 10pm. $6 at the door.

SUMMARY:The Hussy\, Streetlamps for Spotlights\, Pouncer
DESCRIPTION:Sunday June 23rd\, 2013\nThe Hussy\nPouncer\nStreetlamps for Spotlights \n9PM \nAbout The Hussy\n“Blame” opens Pagan Hiss– their third album– with proof that a power duo pegged with words like “psych\,” “garage\,” or “punk” don’t have to rely solely on caveman stomping or fuzzed out guitars. Sure\, there’s menace behind Bobby’s power chords\, and Heather definitely knows how to bash\, but there’s nuance here. They mess around with a few different guitar textures\, vary up their volume for dramatic effect\, and line the whole track with sonics worthy of an old sci-fi or horror movie (like the echoing laughter in the intro or the various UFO-worthy effects).”\nPITCHFORK \n“Kicks in the face. Guitars on fire. Catchy psychedelic punk that shakes you. Madison duo the Hussy is getting so good at what it does it may not stay underground for long.”\nMILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL

SUMMARY:Dubtonic Kru (kingston\, jamaica)\, Kool Johnny Kool
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday June 19th\, 2013\nDubtonic Kru (Kingston\, Jamaica)\nKool Johnny Kool\n10PM\n$5 \nAbout Dubtonic Kru: \nImagine heavy baselines\, one drops\, psychedelic guitar riffs\, echoing keyboards\, popping percussion and conscious lyrics \nNow imagine roots reggae\, imagine dub\, rock… \nPut them all together and you get a new breed of Jamaican music called DubTonic Kru \nLike their style of music\, Dubtonic is a mixture of two words “DUB”\, relating to the heavy drum and bass aspect of reggae music and “TONIC”\, referring to medicine. The eclectic blend of music and musicians are certainly medicine to one’s soul and after listening you simply just want more of this TONIC \nIt’s then no surprise\, the level of positive energy that is shared through music between “Dubtonic Kru” and their listeners everywhere they perform. \n \nTheir versatility and capability in being able to serve the right dosage to their varying audiences was the edge they had over their counterparts when they were voted BEST NEW BAND IN THE WORLD” 2010 – 2011 at the Global Battle of the Bands World Finals in Malyasia\, February 2011. After a fierce musical showdown of different genres that involved national finalists from numerous countries\, the Executive Judges made the unanimous decision that awarded Dubtonic Kru top honours. \nFounding members of Dubtonic Kru\, “Jubba” and “Stone”\, a dynamic Drum & Bass duo\, who over the years contributed to the development of modern Roots Reggae\, with their unique sound and approach that intertwines Jubba’s mesmerizing Reggae/Jazz Fusion drumming with Stone’s groovy\, yet pulsating bass lines. The Duo has gained about a decade and a half of experience from touring and or recording with the legendary likes of Max Romeo\, U-Roy\, Burning Spear\, The Mighty Diamonds as well as modern day artistes such as Bushman\, Junior Kelly\, Richie Spice and Lutan Fyah . A significant milestone in their careers was the composition of the “I Swear” rhythm\, that took the Reggae arena by storm featuring artistes such as Richie Spice\, Chuck Fenda\, Sizzla among others. \nWith the addition of longtime friend and versatile guitarist Jallanzo\, who added his strong vocal ability and the young\, talented Luke Dixon on work stations\, Dubtonic Kru became a more complete music machine Another turning point of the group’s dynamic came with the addition of very unique and powerful singer to round out the already electrifying dub compositions with sometimes spoken words and song writing by Jubba and Jallanzo. Kamau\, “the Quiet Warrior”\, brings a revolutionary voice to the Kru. Their songs and spoken words are consciously thought provoking\, while their rhythm/dub section walks through the passage of time with a gritty sound that rolls stones and break fences. Some of their popular numbers like Sunshine Girl\, Born Jamaican\, World Crisis\, Balance and Natty Dread are testimony to the group’s versatility. \n2010 could be comfortably dubbed their year as they were also honoured by the United States House of Representatives and was presented with a Congressional Proclamation by Congress woman Yvette Clarke for their contributions through music to varying communities. The same year\, they were awarded the Simba Award by CPR (Coalition to preserve Reggae Music). Certainly\, their successes have given rise to a resurgence of bands on the local scene in Jamaica and they were once again honoured with the Jamaica Star’s “People’s Choice Award” for “Band of the Year”. \nThe Kru continues to give medicine to audiences through remarkable performances locally and across the\nworld and solidifying their place in the Global music scene. \nThey are certainly dedicated and poised to raising the bar and keeping it interestingly spontaneous!\nDub and Tonic\, the Dubtonic Kru is dedicated to keeping Bands and Reggae Alive… \nStick around for the ride. \n

SUMMARY:Dan Vapid & The Cheats (formerly of Screeching Weasel)\, Kurt Baker\, Flamingo Nosebleed
DESCRIPTION:Saturday June 15th\, 2013\nDan Vapid & The Cheats\nKurt Baker\nFlamingo Nosebleed\n10PM/$5 \nAbout Dan Vapid: \nDan Vapid & The Cheats is the latest project from singer/songwriter Dan “Vapid” Schafer\, a veteran of the punk scene who has done time in the influential bands Screeching Weasel\, Riverdales\, The Methadones\, Sludgeworth\, Noise By Numbers\, The Mopes\, and the Queers. \nOriginally planned as a one-off show\, Vapid and his former bandmates in The Methadones and Screeching Weasel took the stage at Chicago’s Cobra Lounge on May 27th\, 2011 to play a set of songs spanning his two decade-plus career. The show was a huge success and after the overwhelming response from fans around the globe\, Dan Vapid & The Cheats was born. \nSince then the band had already made great strides\, releasing a self-titled debut (recorded by Justin Perkins and produced by Dan himself) on the band’s newly formed Torture Chamber Records (toturechamberrecords.com). In addition\, the band has toured the Midwest\, East Coast\, and Canada\, as well as making an appearance at Insubordination Fest\, Riot Fest and Fest 11. \nThe band shows no signs of slowing down in 2013 either\, with plans to record a second full-length in the Spring\, a forthcoming split 7″ with Masked Intruder\, an appearance on “Our Lips Are Sealed” – A Tribute to the Go-Go’s\, and touring plans to hit the western US and Europe. \nA band that was formed as a one-off to celebrate the past has now become an entity all it’s own. If you are a fan of Vapid’s back catalog or a fan of classic pop-punk and power-pop\, this is a band that you don’t want to miss. \nDan Vapid – Lead Vocals / Guitar\nSimon Lamb – Guitar / Backing Vocals\nRick Uncapher – Bass\nMike Soucy – Drums \ndanvapidandthecheats.com\nfacebook.com/danvapidandthecheats\ntwitter.com/danvapidcheats\ntorturechamberrecords.com

SUMMARY:Bob Reuters Alley Ghost\, Thunderhawk\, White Trash Blues Revival
DESCRIPTION:Friday June 7th\, 2013\nBob Reuter’s Alley Ghost is a group of raw rockers backing the godfather of the St. Louis scene. Bob began playing rock and roll when in early 1966\, and has since preformed in a long series of garage rock\, punk and soul bands. In 2009\, while in the hospital Bob was visited by Mat Wilson\, a fan of Bob’s radio show\, Bob’s Scratchy Records. The two shared their stories and Wilson decided the time was right for Bob’s rediscovery. Big Muddy label head Chris Baricevic enlisted the help of Mat to co-produce a record what would re-introduce Bob to the world and to the younger generation coming up. Musicians were pulled from the roster of Big Muddy’s bands and “Bob Reuter’s Alley Ghost” was created on reel-to-reel in Bob’s kitchen. The folk-punk-folk tinged album was released locally to warm reception. The project was successful and Bob was awarded the Riverfront Times’ “Best Songwriter of 2010.” \nIn 2011\, Alley Ghost\, as the band had become commonly known\, had adopted a sweat-drenched proto-punk sound and released the album “Born There.” In support of the album the band began touring through the Midwest and the South in an effort to introduce themselves to the rest of the United States. \nDuring this period through a number of personnel changes\, the band moved even further in a more electric rocking direction\, while still making their main focus the presentation of Bob’s many original songs. \nIn 2013\, Alley Ghost is releasing their 45 single “Dana Dew\,” on Big Muddy Records and will be touring in support of its upcoming release.\nBob Reuter probably ought to be dead by now. But he comes from a time when rock and roll was still dangerous and he cant let it go. He began playing out in the garage rock era of 1966 – his bands played teen clubs\, frat parties\, soul dances\, in parking lots\,dance halls\, biker bars and a world of other dumps and punk basements. \nIn 1978 his punk ass St. Louis bar band\, The Dinosaurs released a seven inch 45 single of his songs “Rock and Roll Moron” b/w “It Might Be Rose” – In 1980 his Syracuse NY band\, Serious Journalism cranked out loud fast\, hard and aggressive melodic rock and roll for the art school crowd. In 1982 Bob put out a second 45 single under his own name and then spent the rest of the decade hating everything about the 1980’s…. \nCut to 2009\, Bob in a hospital bed\, his cracked chest just wired shut\, blood pumping into one arm\, morphine into the other. He meets two visitors\, two young men who had just founded St. Louis’s Big Muddy Records. “We’d like cut a record with you.” They said\, “Could you empty my pee bottle?” Bob asked. Well\, they did and they did. The back up band was as talented a group of young rockers as the city of St. Louis could supply\, culled from the ranks of other Big Muddy bands. It was recorded in Bob’s apartment’s kitchen. That recording and a Big Muddy Release of ultra lo-fi lost Dinosaurs tapes began garnering bob attention among the late teen and early 20’s demographic of the St. Louis’ south side. “I’ve had this man’s pee on my hands!” said Big Muddy’s Doormat Wilson. \n**********************************************************************************************\n“We are part of an ancient tradition\, resurrected every other generation\, older than dirt and they cant wipe us out. We’re like weeds or the roaches. Just by being who we are\, we’ll warp the levers of their machines\, from the inside out.”\n– The Alley Ghost Credo \n*********************************************************************************************** \nIn 2011\, Alley Ghost\, as the band had become commonly known\, had adopted a sweat-drenched proto-punk sound and released the album “Born There.” In support of the album the band began touring through the Midwest and the South in an effort to introduce themselves to the rest of the United States. \nDuring this period through a number of personnel changes\, the band moved even further in a more electric rocking direction\, while still making their main focus the presentation of Bob’s many original songs. \nIn 2013\, Alley Ghost is releasing their 45 single “Dana Dew\,” on Big Muddy Records and will be touring in support of its upcoming release.
